This is the last official blog of the 2012-2013 school year. West Johnston teachers and staff would like to wish you a wonderful and safe summer. 

  • The reprint for Yearbook is due to arrive on June 5. Please pick up your yearbook from Mrs. Neyman in room 128.
  • Juniors!! Senior Formal Photos will be taken on July 22, 23 and 24 in the small gym by Carlton Hubbard Photography. You will receive an appointment time in the mail by June 30. If you have recently moved, please email jeanetteneyman@johnston.k12.nc.us to put in a change of address. There is a $20 sitting fee for the photographs.
  • "Want to help cheer on Cancer Survivors at Relay For Life & help with the largest twister game? Relay For Life is looking for anyone to become a Relay For Life Johnston county Cheerleader. Please go to room 303 for more information"
  • "Any student interested in taking Driver Education class in June or July will need to attend the only mandatory Parent/Student Meeting during the summer at West Johnston High School on Tuesday, June 11 at 6:30 pm -- 8:00 pm in the West Johnston High School Auditorium. To be eligible to attend the class the student must have been born on or before January 15, 1999.  The parent and student must be present to  register for the class."
  • All seniors, parents and faculty are invited to attend the WJHS Baccalaureate Service at Mount Zion United Methodist Church on Sunday June 2, 2013.  The service will begin at 5:00 p.m. Please dress to impress and leave your cap and gown at home for this service.  Hope to see you all there!
  • Finally, the gates for graduation will open at 4:30. Please do not bring horns, umbrellas, etc. that would be a disruption to the event. Our graduates have worked very hard for this accomplishment. Please be considerate of all students. The ceremony will be promptly at 6 p.m.

  • Attention rising juniors and seniors.  The enrollment for classes at Johnston Community College has been extended to May 30th. Interested students should apply to JCC online, print the application confirmation, and see their counselor in Student Services.

  • Attention sophomores and juniors. Do you want to help plan the Caswell Retreat?  If you are interested in nominating yourself to be a leader at Caswell next year.  Be sure to see Mrs. Ferguson in room 412 before the end of the day on Wednesday, May 29.  
  • There will be a crowning ceremony for Miss WEST JOHNSTON, Jessica Ford, TODAY (28TH), at 11 a.m. in the auditorium. Students and staff are welcome to attend.

  • Peer Tutors of first and second semester for the Life Skills class Please make immediate contact with the teacher Ms. Meyer, Ms. Colvin or Ms. Youngblood to get your pass to the end of the year party.  We will be down in the cafeteria  in the morning, and in the lunch room durning Lunch A and Small Gym durning Lunch B.  If you have been a helper with Mrs. Mennilla's classroom or a circle of friends member...please come see us also.  Thank you.  Your help was appreciated this year.

  • "This week is Relay For Life Spirit week. Please help us in the fight against cancer by participating with events. Today, there is an information booth which will be set up during both lunches for your Relay needs. Tuesday wear your pink out shirts & purple socks. Helps us cover the school with purple feet. go to room 303 to help"
  • Congrats to Jasmine Dawson for winning the state 4A championship in the 100 meter dash on Saturday in Greensboro. Jasmine's time was not only a personal best, but was the 10th fastest time ever in the state of North Carolina. This is the 7th State title won by a West Johnston track and field athlete! The 4* 200 meter relay team of Jasimine, Teri Strickland, Torri Strickland, Tenney Smith finished in 2nd place and set a new school record. Xavier Carter ran an exceptional race and set a new school record to finish 3rd in the 110 meter hurdles. Becky Meshaw also ran an excellent race and recorded a new personal best time to finish 9th in the 3200 meter run. Also competing for the Wildcats were Sam Campbell in the boys discus, and Eboni Robinson in the girls shot put. Great Job West Johnston Track and Field teams for your outstanding performances at the state 4A meet!

  • TONIGHT (May 16th) at 5:30 p.m. there will be a Memorial Garden Ceremony at the flagpole in front of the school to remember those Wildcats we have lost too soon. All faculty, staff, and students are invited. 
  • The Miss West Johnston Pageant is Friday night at 7pm. Students and Teachers- get your tickets in the commons or outside the cafeteria for the low price of $5 and help support the American Cancer Society and Relay for Life. Also take a look at the photos of the contestants in the display case at the front of the school. 
  • "Seniors: The Class of 2013 Panoramic Photo will be taken after the seniors meet in the auditorium Friday morning. You should have received an order form in your homeroom yesterday. You will dress NORMALLY for the photo. After the photo, students who paid senior dues will proceed to field day and the picnic lunch. Then from noon until 2 p.m., you will be in the gym for the yearbook signing. Please email or see Mrs. Neyman in room 128 if you have any questions."
  • We are sold out of yearbooks. However, Herff Jones is willing to do a small run of 40 additional copies for those who did not pre-purchase their yearbook. The yearbook, which is by far the best yearbook ever produced at our school, will cost $100. If you are interested in getting a copy, bring a check for $100 made out to WJHS no later than Friday to Mrs. Neyman in room 128. If 40 people pre-order for this special printing, we can get the yearbooks by May 31. Otherwise, your check will be mailed back to you.

  • All girls who are planning to try out for volleyball for the 2013-2014 school year are encouraged to attend one of the remaining after school workouts. Workouts are from 2:30-4:30 on, Thursday May 16th and Tuesday May 21st.
  • We would like to remind you that The Spring Sports Banquet has been postponed to May 24 at 6 p.m.
  • Attention seniors.  Scholarship and Grant Award Forms must be returned to Student Services TODAY (May 16th) to be included for Senior Awards Night on May 21st.

All FFA members are free with a parent purchase. Also if you need to receive your Greenhand or Chapter Degree you need to come see Mr. Blake, Mr. Honeycutt or any of the FFA Officers.

  • Congratulations to the Golf team for the best season in school history.  They completed their season on Monday at the regionals in Pinehurst.  David Ch-A-vis, Brice Connors, Ben Lacombe, Seth Bondurant, Austin Stewart and Blake Mueller all participated.  Conference champion Scott Freeman also accompanied the team at the event. The golf team had a 52-2-2 conference record and 24-1 county match record, both best in school history.

  • The West Johnston Girls soccer team completed their undefeated regular season with a 7-1 win over East Wake last night while honoring their seniors. Scoring for West was Heather Bittle with 2 goals, Alli Powers with 2 goals, and Rachel Thomas with 3 goals.  Assisting on the goals was Mackenzie Barbour, Heather Bittle, and Madison Covey with 3 assists.  The team would especially like to thank Alli Powers and Rachel Thomas for the 4 years of hard work and meaningful leadership they have put into West soccer.  We wish you the best in the years to come.

  • Congratulations to the West Johnston Boys and Girls track teams for their outstanding performances yesterday at the Greater Neuse River Conference Championships held yesterday at Campbell University. Leading the girls to a 2nd place team finish was Jasmine Dawson, who won confernce championships in the 200 and 400 meter dash races. Becky Meshaw also won the 3200 meter run for the lady Wildcats and captured a conference championship as well. The Boys Finished in 3rd as a team, and were led by Jake Betancourt two conference individual championships, in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs. Xavier Carter had two 2nd place finishes in the 110 meter hurdles and the 300 meter hurdle races as well. Great Job Wildcat track and field teams and best of luck at the regional championships next Saturday!

  • "The West Johnston FFA Chapter is holding the annual Awards Banquet on Thursday, May 16th at 6:00 pm. The price per plate will be $8.00 for parents and guests. All FFA members are free with a parent purchase. Also if you need to receive your Greenhand or Chapter Degree you need to come see Mr. Blake, Mr. Honeycutt or any of the FFA Officers.
  • West Johnston FFA is holding a Fishing Tournament on May 9th. Some of the rules are you have to meet with Mr. Honeycutt after school to pay your $5.00, you can only catch bass, brim and catfish, the fish must be alive and be brought back to the school at 6:00, you cannot miss any school that day, and you have to have permission by the pond owner to fish."
  • There will be a meeting for all HOSA members who signed up to assist with the ""Miss West Johnston Pageant"" on Tuesday, April 30th during POWER LUNCH B in room 314.

  • The Lady Wildcats soccer team defeated Harnett Central last night, 3-0.  Scoring for West was Mallory Barton assisted by Heather Bittle and Heather Bittle with two goals assisted by Mackenzie Barber and Madison Covey.  Your Lady Wildcats next home game is Monday at 6:00 against the Clayton Comets.
  • Attention rising juniors and seniors taking Johnston Community College (JCC) courses this fall.  Please be reminded that your JCC Registration Day is today at 2:00 pm at JCC.  New students need to have a parent with them.  Returning students need to take a current transcript with them.
  • The Johnston County Youth Summit and Career & Resource Fair for ages 14-21 is on May 8 from 8:30am-1:30pm. Admission is FREE, and lunch is provided at JCC Paul A. Johnston Auditorium. Pre-Registration is required and are forms provided in student services.
  • Saturday May 11th is the 3rd annual JCS Dropout Prevention High School/Middle School 3 on 3 Basketball tournament. Any Johnston County Schools' employee may sponsor your team, & the fee is only $10 per team. Deadline to register is TODAY. Registration forms can be picked up in student services & to be returned to Mr. Bradshaw.

  • Congratulations to the Golf team for winning the first conference championship in school history.  Scott Freeman led the Wildcats to its 7th straight win yesterday at Reedy Creek with a two under par score of 70.  David Ch-A-vis shot 83. Seth Bondurant shot 87 and Ben Lacombe shot 90.  The team had four players make All Conference: Scott Freeman, David Ch-A-vis, Brice Connors, and Ben Lacombe.  Scott Freeman won the player of the year. Ben Lacombe also won the conference sportsmanship award.

  • Any student interested in taking the Drivers Education class beginning April 22nd will need to attend the mandatory Parent/Student meeting TODAY at 6:30pm to 8:00pm in the West Johnston High School Auditorium. To be eligible to attend the class the student must have been born on or before October 18, 1998. The parent and student must be present to register for the class.
  • Booster Club will be hosting a "Test Drive Fundraiser" at Don Jenkins, April 18-20. Come out to Don Jenkins and support our athletics program.
