Good professional development should be aligned with the district and school educational goals. When alignment occurs, the students, the school, and the district achieve success.
Over the years, the Johnston County School District has provided a variety of foundational activities aimed at building the capacity of the intellectual and performance pyramid. Areas addressed are as follows:
•Improved student learning •Improved teacher effectiveness •High standards for all students and educational personnel •Life-long learning for all •Enhanced leadership and intellectual capacity
On-going, focused professional development has become a culture in Johnston County. Training in Dimensions of Learning (a framework for good teaching and learning), Professional Learning Communities, Total Quality Education, Electronic Classroom Walk Through, and Framework of Poverty have become common practice.
