During extremely bad weather, it sometimes becomes necessary for a decision to be made concerning the closing of schools. When a decision is made in the early morning that schools will close for the day, it must be relayed quickly to all pupils and parents. In order to accomplish this task efficiently and with maximum coverage, school officials are asking all pupils and parents to cooperate by following the suggestions listed below:

   1.  For an announcement concerning school closing, listen in the early morning to one of the area radio stations such as WQDR 94.7 FM, WKTC 96.9 FM, WRAL 101.5 FM, WRDU 106.1 FM, WPTF 680 AM, or WTSB 1090 AM or watch one of the following television stations - WTVD 11, WRAL 5 or WKFT 40.

  2.  A decision to close the schools or to consider a delayed schedule will be announced by 6:00 a.m.

  3. Do not telephone the weather bureau, radio or television stations, newspaper offices, school officials, or school offices. Announcements will reach you by radio and television.

  4. The absence of any announcement means that the schools will open as usual.

When making a decision on opening or closing the schools, school officials are primarily concerned with the safety and welfare of all pupils.

In the event that school is dismissed prior to the usual closing time because of inclement weather, principals will remain at school until every school bus driver responsible to them has called in that all children have been delivered and the bus parked for the day. Upon receiving reports from all drivers, the principal will report to the Director of Transportation.
