Our class will be using the Words Their Way spelling program to learn spelling this year. After giving students a diagnostic spelling test (of which they did not study for), students will be placed into spelling groups. They will be learning at their developmental spelling level so that weekly spelling isn't simply memorizing words, but learning the patterns.  Since internalizing the spelling patterns so that they can be applied to other words is the main goal, practicing word sorts are a major component of spelling.

To allow students more time to learn their words and word patterns, I am extending the typical 4 days of spelling practice to 7 days.  Students will recieve their words, turn in spelling contract assignments, and take tests according to the following schedule.

*Some students in Mrs. Hoyt's Homeroom will be Wed. for Green Group.
Throughout the week students will  complete spelling contract assignments as well as sorting their words both at home and school.
