Smithfield Middle School Supply List

Smithfield Middle School is an AVID school. AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. It is a middle school and high school program designed to prepare students for four-year college eligibility. It has a proven track record in bringing out the best in students and in closing the achievement gap. A segment of  AVID curriculum includes teaching students organizatinal and study skills. Listed below are the specific school supplies the AVID curriculum requires students to bring to class. 

*Some class projects may require additonal supplies such as poster board, etc. Please  discuss with each of your student's teachers the need for additional supplies.

2012-2013

All sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students need the following supplies.  The supply list includes items needed for math, language arts, science, and social studies. 

• 3-Ring Binder (at least 3 inches thick)
• 3-Ring Pencil Pouch
• Hand held pencil sharpener
• Lined loose-leaf paper
• Dividers (10)
• #2 pencils
• Blue or Black Pens
• Highlighters
• Colored Pencils, Markers, or Crayons
• Set of Gym clothes (to be used 1^st or 2^nd semester)

The following items may be used during the year by all teachers.  It would be helpful if you could donate any of these items.  Items may be turned in to first block teachers.
