Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year at Powhatan Elementary School!  We are full of Powhatan PRIDE as we celebrate our student achievement and school accomplishments!  Our school earned the title of Honor School of Excellence with

92 % of students in grades 3-5 proficient in reading and math.  Our students made expected growth and our school met adequate yearly progress status.  Collaborative efforts between home, school and community were the key to our success! We will continue to set high expectations for our school!

Our theme for this school year is “Powhatan Realizes the Power of One: One Thought, One Word, One Action”.  Our school will strive to increase technology resources with the support of the PTA.  We want to share information about school instructional resources with parents.  Each grade level will plan parent information sessions and design information brochures highlighting school resources and ways to help your child learn at home.  Science content will be reinforced in the media center this year.  We look forward to using our SMART boards and classroom projectors!  Students can participate in Green Kids Club, Safety Patrol, Chorus, Spanish and Pep TV.  We will encourage students to “Stand Tall” with good character and to “fill each other’s buckets” with kind remarks and compliments!

Our PTA will work closely with the School Improvement Team to evaluate the needs of the school and provide additional resources in the media center with Scholastic Book Fairs.  We will continue to plan fundraising events that allow community members to be involved with our school and students to be reinforced for reading. Continue to collect Box Tops for our school improvement projects. 

Our vision is to prepare all students for academic success and effective citizenship.  Students and staff will participate in service projects to give back to the community. Student Ambassadors will be selected to mentor new students at our school.  Teachers will work collaboratively in Professional Learning Communities to provide differentiated instruction for ALL students!
