Mr. Harold Dixon, one of the beloved custodians of our school, lost his house in a fire this past Monday morning, December 17th, 2012. He and his family escaped unharmed but lost all of their belongings, including their Christmas presents.

Parents, students, and staff of our Riverwood family are responding graciously to their needs. Donations of all kinds, including food, clothing, school supplies, Christmas presents, and cash have been pouring in to the school. All of the kindness and warmth shown to the Dixon family is truly appreciated and we know that the love and support are always a part of our community.

Thank you and Happy Holidays to All.

Ms. Alexis Yauch  and Ms. Sullivan Bates, 7th grade students at Riverwood Middle School, were chosen through a rigorous audition process to participate in the North Carolina Association for Music Education 2012 Honors Chorus. The program, to be held in Winston Salem on November 11, will be conducted by Professor Sandra Snow of Michigan State University.

These students are two of 156 outstanding musicians chosen from over 1,000 who auditioned from all over the state of North Carolina. Being chosen for the choir is such an honor and a truly amazing experience. The level of dedication demonstrated by each performer while part of the NC Honors Chorus speaks volumes to character and love of the art.

The Riverwood faculty, staff, and community congratulate Ms. Yauch and Ms. Bates for their outstanding accomplishment.  Ms. Carmen Aiken is their general music and choral teacher.
